CONEY ISLAND, BROOKLYN, N.Y. (July 31, 2026) — CF Yonatan Henríquez homered, and LF Randy Guzmán collected two hits, but a six-run second inning proved too much to overcome as the Winston-Salem Dash defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones, 14-4, in front of 4,077 fans on Friday night at Maimonides Park.
Scoreless after one, Winston-Salem (17-17, 55-45) erupted in the second.
LF Derek Cerda started the rally with a leadoff double before advancing to third on a one-out single by C Ben Hartl. 3B Bryce Eblin followed with a sacrifice fly to right to give the Dash a 1-0 lead. Back-to-back RBI singles from SS Javier Mogollon and RF Nick McLain extended the Dash lead to 2-0.
After a pitching change and a walk, CF George Wolkow hammered a ball into the backyard beyond the right-field wall for a grand slam. The 20-year-old’s 16th home run of the season extended Winston-Salem’s edge to 6-0.
Brooklyn (16-17, 41-57) answered in the third.
Henríquez led off the inning by slicing a 2-1 pitch over the left-field fence for a solo home run, his fourth of the season, trimming the deficit to 6-1.
The Cyclones chipped away again in the sixth.
Guzmán opened the inning with a single before 2B Colin Houck delivered an RBI single to left with two outs, cutting the deficit to 6-2. Consecutive walks to 1B Trace Willhoite and C Chase Meggers forced home another run, bringing Brooklyn within 6-3.
Winston-Salem answered immediately in the seventh.
Three walks loaded the bases before Cerda looped an RBI single to left. Following another pitching change, 1B Wes Kath added a sacrifice fly to restore a five-run cushion at 8-3.
Brooklyn got one run back in the bottom half. RF JT Benson ripped a triple into the right-center field gap to leadoff the frame and quickly scored on Guzmán's sacrifice fly, making it 8-4.
The Dash put the game away in the eighth.
With two runners aboard, Wolkow added an RBI single before SS Kyle Lodise blooped a run-scoring single into center. Cerda followed with a two-run double to left, and a throwing error later in the inning allowed another run to score, extending the lead to 13-4.
Winston-Salem added one last run in the ninth, forcing in a run with four walks.
LHP Grant Umberger (8-7) collected the win for the Dash, spinning 5.0 innings of one-run, three-hit ball, walking one, and striking out six.
RHP Frank Camarillo (2-2) suffered the loss for the Cyclones, yielding four runs on five hits in 1.2 frames, striking out three.
RHP Joel Díaz thrived in his first outing with Brooklyn since mid-May, twirling 3.0 scoreless innings of relief, permitting just one hit, and punching out three.
RHP Austin Warren pitched a scoreless inning of relief in his first Major League rehab appearance for the Cyclones, striking out one and hitting a batter.
Brooklyn will try to return to the win column on Saturday night. RHP José Chirinos (1-5, 4.74), the New York Mets’ No. 19 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is expected to take the ball for the Cyclones, while the Dash are slated to counter with RHP Drew McDaniel (2-6, 4.59). First pitch from Maimonides Park is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. ET.
