CONEY ISLAND, BROOKLYN, N.Y. (August 1, 2026) — 1B Yohairo Cuevas collected two hits, including a game-tying solo home run, but the Winston-Salem Dash scored once in the sixth and added two insurance runs in the ninth to defeat the Brooklyn Cyclones, 6-3, in front of a sellout crowd of 6,578 on Saturday night at Maimonides Park.
After two scoreless innings, Winston-Salem (18-17, 56-45) struck first in the third.
With two outs, RF George Wolkow doubled into the left-center field gap before advancing to third when C Calvin Harris reached on a single that was lined off the pitcher. SS Kyle Lodise followed with another comebacker that ricocheted off the pitcher’s body for an RBI single, giving the Dash a 1-0 lead.
Brooklyn (16-18, 41-58) answered immediately in the bottom of the inning.
Cuevas led off with a single before being erased on a fielder's choice. 3B Jacob Reimer then lined a ball under the shortstop's glove and all the way to the warning track in left-center for a double, allowing Yonatan Henríquez to score from first and tie the game. 2B Andy Ibáñez smashed the next pitch for an RBI single up the middle to put the Cyclones in front, 2-1.
The Dash reclaimed the lead in the fifth.
2B Javier Mogollon drew a leadoff walk before Harris launched a one-out, two-run home run off the videoboard in left, his second High-A homer of the year, giving Winston-Salem a 3-2 advantage.
Cuevas quickly drew Brooklyn even in the bottom of the frame. Leading off the inning, the Bronx native hammered the fifth pitch he saw over the left-field fence for a game-tying solo shot. Cuevas’ sixth home run since returning from Single-A St. Lucie made it a 3-3 contest.
However, Winston-Salem regained the lead for good in the top of the sixth.
With the bases empty and one out, CF Ely Brown hooked a line drive around the left-field foul pole for a solo home run. The Mercer University alum’s third blast of the year put the Dash ahead 4-3.
The Cyclones threatened in the seventh but came away empty.
Reimer and Ibáñez produced back-to-back two-out singles to put the tying and go-ahead runs on base, but a strikeout ended the inning.
Winston-Salem added insurance in the ninth.
LF Nick McLain singled to begin the inning before a fielding error and a wild pitch moved runners to second and third with one out. Harris then snuck a two-run single through the drawn-in infield to extend the Dash lead to 6-3.
RHP Jake Curtis, who tossed a perfect eighth inning, returned for the ninth and retired the side to finish off the victory.
Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision. RHP José Chirinos surrendered just one run on five hits in 4.0 innings for Brooklyn, walking three and striking out four. Winston-Salem’s RHP Drew McDaniel tied a season-long with 4.0 frames, permitting two runs on five hits, punching out three.
RHP Max Banks (2-2) earned the win in relief despite allowing Cuevas' game-tying home run. The Dash reliever gave up one run on two hits over 2.0 innings, walking one and striking out one.
Curtis retired all six batters he faced, striking out one, to record his second save of the season.
RHP Parker Carlson (1-5) was saddled with the loss for the Cyclones after yielding three runs on four hits in 2.0 innings. The Mobile, Ala. native walked one and struck out one.
Brooklyn will try to earn a split in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. LHP Daviel Hurtado (4-2, 2.61), the New York Mets’ No. 18 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is expected to make his second start of the week for the Cyclones. The Dash are projected to counter with LHP Dylan Carmouche (1-0, 0.00). First pitch from Maimonides Park is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET.
