WILMINGTON, Del. (August 4, 2026) — 3B Jamari Baylor launched a leadoff home run in the third inning, while LF Trey Snyder added his first High-A homer later in the frame, as the Brooklyn Cyclones rolled past the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 7-1, on Tuesday night at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium.
After two scoreless innings, Brooklyn (18-18, 43-58) broke through in the third.
Baylor opened the inning by crushing the second pitch he saw just left of straightaway center for a solo home run. The Richmond, Va. native's third homer as a Cyclone gave Brooklyn a 1-0 lead.
Following a walk to SS Antonio Jimenez and a groundout, Snyder drilled a 1-0 pitch off the batter's eye in center field for a two-run homer. The 20-year-old's first High-A long ball extended the Cyclones' advantage to 3-0.
The Cyclones continued to pull away in the fifth.
CF Aidan Smith and Snyder opened the inning with back-to-back singles before DH Randy Guzmán punched a one-out RBI single into right-center to make it 4-0.
After a walk to 2B Yonatan Henríquez loaded the bases, RF John Spikerman collected his first hit in the Mets organization with an RBI single to right, stretching the lead to 5-0.
C Ronald Hernandez followed with a potential inning-ending double play grounder, but beat the relay throw to first on a fielder's choice, allowing another run to score and increasing Brooklyn's cushion to 6-0.
That proved to be more than enough support for the Cyclones' pitching staff.
LHP Nicolas Carreño carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before RHP Parker Carlson took over in relief and kept the bid alive into the eighth.
Wilmington (21-15, 52-49) was finally able to break up the no-hit bid and the shutout in the eighth.
After a leadoff walk, DH Teo Banks singled to center for the Blue Rocks' first hit of the night. SS Eli Willits then drew a walk to load the bases with nobody out.
With one out, RF Yeremy Cabrera snuck an RBI single into right to break up the shutout and trim Brooklyn's lead to 6-1.
However, that was as close as Wilmington would get. LHP Luis Rodríguez struck out the next two hitters, one swinging and one looking, to strand the bases full and protect Brooklyn’s five-run lead into the ninth.
In the final frame, the Cyclones used their speed to scratch across an insurance run.
Jimenez drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After another walk and Jimenez's steal of third, Smith attempted to steal second. On the throw to second base, Jimenez broke for the plate. Although the relay back to the dish was in time, his headfirst slide knocked the ball loose from the catcher's mitt, allowing him to steal home and give the Cyclones a 7-1 lead.
RHP Juan Arnaud entered in the ninth and slammed the door shut on the Cyclones’ victory, working around a trio of walks.
Carreño (1-1) earned his first career High-A victory after spinning 5.2 innings of shutout and hitless ball. The 20-year-old walked five, but struck out eight.
LHP Liam Sullivan (0-2) suffered the loss for Wilmington after being charged with three runs on four hits in 4.0 frames. The Georgia product walked four and struck out four.
Three newcomers also made strong first impressions for Brooklyn. Smith, acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in the Freddy Peralta trade, went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored. Spikerman, acquired from the Philadelphia Phillies, finished 1-for-4 with an RBI, while 1B Cole Mathis, obtained from the Chicago Cubs last month, went 0-for-4 with a walk.
Brooklyn will try to extend their win streak to three on Wednesday night. RHP Emilio Obispo (0-0, 1.93) is expected to take the hill for the Cyclones, while the Blue Rocks are scheduled to counter with RHP Carson Fischer (3-0, 3.18). First pitch from Frawley Stadium is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET.
