WILMINGTON, Del. (August 5, 2026) — The Brooklyn Cyclones pulled off a remarkable ninth-inning comeback, erupting for six runs to erase a four-run deficit and stun the Wilmington Blue Rocks, 10-8, on Wednesday night at Daniel S. Frawley Stadium.
Brooklyn (19-18, 44-58) entered the ninth trailing 8-4 before stringing together six runs. The victory extended the Cyclones' winning streak to three and moved them within 2.5 games of first-place Greensboro in the South Atlantic League North Division second-half standings.
The comeback began with patience at the plate, as DH Carter Dierdorf, 3B Antonio Jimenez, and SS Sammy Stafura drew consecutive walks to load the bases with nobody out. CF Aidan Smith followed with a sacrifice fly to deep right-center, trimming the deficit to 8-5.
After another walk and a pitching change, 2B Jamari Baylor smashed a two-run single into left-center, bringing Brooklyn within one at 8-7. A fly out advanced LF Trey Snyder to third, setting the stage for 2B-RF Yonatan Henríquez.
On the second pitch he saw, the 21-year-old launched a towering three-run home run—his fifth of the year—over the left-center field wall, completing the comeback and giving Brooklyn a 10-8 lead.
RHP Josh Blum retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth to record his first save of the season—and his first since Game 1 of the 2025 SAL North Division Series.
Brooklyn struck first with three runs in the opening inning. Stafura led off the game with a double on the first pitch, while a walk to Snyder and an infield single by RF Randy Guzmán loaded the bases. 1B Cole Mathis delivered a two-run double down the left-field line before Henríquez smacked the next pitch for an RBI single, giving the Cyclones a 3-0 advantage.
Wilmington (21-16, 52-50) answered in the third. C Brady Cerkownyk doubled to right to open the inning, and after a two-out walk to 2B Ronny Cruz, CF Yeremy Cabrera drove in the Blue Rocks' first run by dunking a single to center. Following a steal of second, 3B Ángel Felíz lined a two-run double off the wall in right-center to tie the game at 3-3.
Both teams traded solo home runs in the middle innings.
Smith put Brooklyn back in front in the fifth, leading off the inning with a solo blast to the back of Wilmington’s left-field bullpen. His 11th home run of the South Atlantic League season—and first as a Cyclone—made it 4-3.
Wilmington responded in the sixth when 1B Jacob Walsh crushed a game-tying solo homer to right-center to start the frame. The 471-foot drive was Walsh's 10th High-A home run of the year.
The Blue Rocks took their first lead of the series in the seventh. SS Eli Willits singled, advanced to second on a ground out, and after a walk, later scored on Felíz's RBI single to center, putting Wilmington ahead 5-4.
An inning later, the Blue Rocks appeared to pull away. RF Teo Banks reached on an infield single and moved to third on a two-out hit to right by LF Elijah Nunez. Willits followed with a two-run single up the middle to stretch the lead to 7-4 before stealing second, advancing to third on a throwing error, and scoring on Cruz's infield single to make it 8-4.
Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision. RHP Emilio Obispo allowed three runs on three hits over 2.2 innings for Brooklyn, walking three and striking out three. Wilmington starter RHP Carson Fischer surrendered four runs on five hits in 4.1 innings, issuing four walks and striking out two.
LHP Gregori Louis (4-3) earned the win in relief for the Cyclones despite allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits over one inning.
Blue Rocks RHP Jackson Dannelley (0-1) took the loss and was charged with the blown save after allowing two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Brooklyn will look to make it four-straight victories on Thursday night. RHP Joel Díaz (0-6, 7.63) is expected to make the start for the Cyclones, while the Blue Rocks are projected to counter with RHP Tucker Biven (3-1, 3.38). First pitch from Daniel S. Frawley Stadium is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. ET.
