CHARLOTTE, NC – The Buffalo Bisons finished their 2026 road schedule with a loss in game one of a scheduled split doubleheader, and due to heavy rain at Truist Field, game two was canceled after Buffalo took a one-run lead in the top of the second inning.
Charlotte took game one with a 10-1 victory, but Buffalo responded with a 1-0 win in game two to split the doubleheader. Davis Schneider and Lenyn Sosa each launched home runs on the afternoon.
Charlotte got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Tim Elko hit an RBI single that scored Rikuu Nishida, and Jake Cave followed with an RBI groundout that scored Riley Unroe.
The Knights extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Caden Connor got home on a forceout, and Unroe launched a two-run home run that scored Nishida.
Buffalo cut the deficit to 5-1 in the top of the third on a solo home run by Schneider.
Charlotte made it 6-1 in the bottom of the third on an RBI double by Andy Weber that scored Cave.
The Knights extended their lead to 9-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Elko hit a two-run double that scored Nishida and Unroe, and Elko got home on a sacrifice fly by Connor.
John Klein retired the side for the Bisons in the bottom of the fifth, striking out one.
Charlotte made it 10-1 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Cave that scored Elko.
The Bisons were able to strike first in game two of the twin bill. Sosa hit a solo home run off of Charlotte starter Tyler Gilbert. Sosa’s third home run with Buffalo and second of the series gave the team a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.
Richard Gallardo started game two and escaped a leadoff base hit in the bottom of the first inning by Nishida, inducing a pop up and two ground outs to keep the game scoreless and allow Sosa to open up a one-run advantage.
The right-hander issued a leadoff walk in the bottom of the second inning to Korey Lee on four pitches before the tarp was called for and the game eventually canceled. Gallardo threw 15 pitches, eight of them strikes, in one inning plus one batter.
The Bisons are heading back to Sahlen on Tuesday for their final home stand of the season. Buffalo and Rochester are scheduled for a 6:05 p.m. first pitch on Tuesday evening at Sahlen Field. Pregame coverage on The Bet 1520 AM, the Audacy app, and Bisons.com begin at 5:45 p.m.
