Buffalo, N.Y. - On Sunday afternoon at Sahlen Field, the Buffalo Bisons scored seven runs in the seventh inning to overcome a 7-1 deficit, highlighted by Ismael Munguia’s go-ahead bases-clearing double, and the Herd prevented a sweep by the Worcester Red Sox in an abbreviated five-game series, taking the last one 8-7.
Grant Rogers got the start for the Herd, and in the first inning, the WooSox strung together three singles and a walk to drive in two runs, highlighted by RBI knocks by Romy Gonzalez and Kristian Campbell.
In the bottom of the inning, Buffalo got on the board against Worcester starter Gage Ziehl. With one out, Jay Harry launched a ball to right field for his sixth home run of the season with the Herd and his first since July 5. It made the score 2-1.
The WooSox brought home three runs in the top of the second, extending their lead to 5-1. They hit three doubles in a four-batter span, with the last two scoring runs as Braiden Ward and Franklin Arias were credited with RBIs. Arias advanced to third on an error on his double, then Anthony Seigler scored him on a sacrifice fly.
In the fourth, Ward was hit by a pitch, stole his Triple-A-leading 55th stolen base of the season and scored on a two-out RBI infield hit by Gonzalez. A throwing error moved Gonzalez to second, and he then crossed the plate on an RBI double by Campbell that ended Rogers’ day.
In his team-leading 26th start of the season, Rogers allowed seven runs, six earned, on 10 hits and one walk while striking out one.
After getting the last out of the fourth, Pat Gallagher navigated a two-out single for a scoreless fifth and pitched a 1-2-3 sixth.
Ziehl gave way to John Brebbia for Worcester in the bottom of the sixth. The Bisons got two men on by a single and an error, but failed to score either.
Daniel Guerra was Buffalo’s next man out of the bullpen for Worcester’s half of the seventh. He walked a pair of batters, but he posted a scoreless outing. He was aided by Rhylan Thomas making a sliding catch in center field to prevent two runs and end the frame.
Facing Angel Bastardo in the bottom of the seventh, Munguia singled and Lenyn Sosa hit a two-run home run to cut Buffalo’s deficit to 7-3. It then loaded the bases on a walk and two singles, knocking Bastardo out of the game.
The floodgates opened after that. The Herd teed off on Tyler Samaniego with two outs, as Nick Goodwin had a two-run single, then after a Davis Schneider pinch-hit walk, Munguia ripped a ball to the right-center gap to unload the bases and give the Herd an 8-7 lead. Munguia then tried to score on a single by Sosa, but was gunned down at the plate by Allan Castro in left field.
In the eighth, Chad Dallas pitched a scoreless top half, and in the bottom, the Herd managed two baserunners against Osvaldo Berrios, but were unable to extend their lead.
Brendan Cellucci came out in the ninth for a chance at his first save of the season, and he navigated around a two-out walk to earn it. It was his first save since April 17, 2025 with Worcester.
The Bisons will travel to Charlotte for their second-to-last series of the season, a six-game set against the Knights at Truist Field starting on Tuesday. First pitch for game one is at 6:35 p.m. The Herd has yet to announce their starter.
