CHARLOTTE, NC – Saturday night was a record-setting evening for the Charlotte Knights and Truist Field. The Knights welcomed 11,355 fans, the most ever for a Knights game at Truist Field, and played an entertaining, competitive ballgame against the Durham Bulls. Charlotte ultimately came up short by a final score of 9-6.
The Bulls jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but the Knights rallied back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the frame. Andy Weber, Dru Baker, and Mario Camilletti all delivered RBI base hits in the innings.
Durham broke the tie with a pair of runs in the third before the Knights pushed one across in the fourth on a passed ball.
The lead ballooned to 9-5 when the Bulls added the game’s next three tallies; however, the Knights continued to battle. Eric Haase knocked in Baker in the seventh to cut the deficit to three. Charlotte then brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth but was unable to sustain the rally.
The Knights still lead the series three-game-to-two with the finale set for Sunday at 5:05pm. It is the final head-to-head meeting between the two in-state rivals this season.
