CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte Knights took a two-games-to-one lead in their current series against the Durham Bulls thanks to an 8-5 victory on Thursday night. Charlotte erased an early deficit and used a pair of Home Runs to claim the momentum and ultimately the victory.
Durham plated three of their five runs in the top of the first inning. The quick start by the visitors did not phase the Knights and a massive two-out rally in the bottom of the inning changed the game entirely.
Eric Haase began the onslaught with a two-out walk. The next batter, Korey Lee, clubbed a 426-foot Home Run; his 15th of the season. After back-to-back walks issued to Caden Connor and Junior Perez, Andy Weber ripped a two-run triple to the right-centerfield gap and the Knights led 4-3 after one.
Connor added an RBI groundout in the second inning and Charlotte’s 5-3 lead held up until the top of the fifth. The Bulls hit a game-tying two run shot; however, Riley Unroe answered with a two-run homer of his own in the bottom of the fifth. Connor drove in his second run of the game with a two-out RBI single in the sixth.
Charlotte’ bullpen trio of Jairo Iriarte, Tyler Schweitzer, and Garrett Schoenle combined for five shutout innings down the stretch.
The Knights have now won 12 of their 15 games against the Bulls so far this year. Game Four of the current series is set for Friday evening at 7:04pm ET.
