NASHVILLE, TN – The Charlotte Knights clawed their way to a 6-4 win over the Nashville Sounds behind a massive day at the plate by Eric Haase. The newest member of the Knights drove in five of Charlotte’s six runs and the bullpen fired five shutout innings down the stretch.
Haase did a chunk of his damage in the top of the first inning. Charlotte had the bases loaded with two outs when the designated hitter ripped a bases-clearing double. Nashville rallied back and took a 4-3 lead with two runs in the bottom of the first, another in the second, and one more in the fourth.
Once again, Haase delivered for the road team. After Tim Elko singled in the sixth, Haase lined a two-run Home Run over the right field wall and the Knights took a 5-4 lead.
Riley Unroe provided a key insurance run with a solo homer in the top of the ninth. The blast was Unroe’s fourth in just his 12th game played with the Knights.
The bullpen combination of Jairo Iriarte, Tanner McDougal, Jaden Woods, and Zach Franklin spelled the starter Shane Smith beginning in the top of the fifth inning. The four relievers were extremely effective and held the Sounds scoreless the rest of the way.
Charlotte has now won six straight and nine of their last 11. The Knights will look to keep the streak going on Friday with Game Four against the Sounds slated for 7:35pm ET.
