MOOSIC, PA – The Charlotte Knights fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 5-3 on Friday night in a game where Scranton scored all five of their runs via the Home Run ball. Charlotte never quit and kept the game close throughout.
The Knights fell behind 3-0 on a pair of RailRiders homers. It was the only damage allowed by starting pitcher Jonathan Cannon who notched another quality start with six innings pitched.
Charlotte scored their first run in the top of the seventh when Junior Perez laced an RBI double over the head of Cody Bellinger. The next batter, Mario Camilletti, brought home Perez with an RBI double of his own.
The offense kept the pressure on in the eighth inning. Perez singled and stole second with one out; however, back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.
The RailRiders received a much needed two-run homer from Anthony Volpe in the bottom of the eighth and increased their lead to 5-2.
In the ninth, Andy Weber walked and Caden Connor delivered his second double of the ballgame. Rikuu Nishida’s RBI single brought the Knights within two and put the go-ahead run at the plate in the form of Edgar Quero.
Unfortunately, Quero was robbed of a base hit on a sharp groundball back up the middle and it turned into a game-ending double play.
The series is now knotted up at two games apiece with Game Five set for Saturday at 6:05pm ET.
