ROCHESTER, NY – The Charlotte Knights dropped their third straight close game to the team with the best record in the International League this season, the Rochester Red Wings. On Sunday afternoon, Charlotte fell by a final score of 7-5.
The Knights offense started quickly and built an early 3-0 lead. Junior Perez and Edgar Quero both delivered RBI doubles in the top of the first inning while Riley Unroe added a solo Home Run in the second.
Rochester erased the deficit with three runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning, then took a 5-3 lead behind Trey Liscomb’s two-run Homer. Lipscomb finished the six-game series with four home runs and 12 total hits.
The Knights kept the ballgame close the rest of the way and managed to push a run across in the top of the sixth on Mario Camilletti’s RBI single. Quero added another RBI hit in the ninth, but the Red Wings’ advantage on the scoreboard remained.
Jaden Woods delivered a strong outing out of the Knights bullpen. Woods pitched two innings and struck out five of the seven batters he faced.
Quero led the way offensively with three hits and Camilletti chipped in two. The Knights as a whole had a solid approach at the plate throughout the game; however, the Red Wings defense took away multiple hits with exceptional defensive plays.
Next up for Charlotte is a six-game series at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre that begins on Tuesday. The RailRiders have been one of the best teams in the IL throughout the second half of the season.
