NORFOLK, VA – The final week of the 2026 season is upon us and with that comes the final appearances for the Charlotte Knights pitching staff. Wednesday was Jonathan Cannon’s turn to take the mound and the right-hander delivered a solid performance. Unfortunately, the Knights fell to the Norfolk Tides by a final score of 5-2.
Cannon tossed five frames and surrendered all five of the Tides’ runs; however, two of them were unearned. Tyler Schweitzer and Tanner McDougal kept Norfolk’s offense from scoring over the final three innings.
Offensively, it was another slower game for the best hitting team in the International League. Charlotte did receive a two-run Home Run from their shortstop, Andy Weber. The blast came in the top of the fifth inning and brought the Knights within two runs at the time.
Joey Wiemer continued to swing a hot bat. The left-fielder finished 2-for-4 and was joined in the hit column by Weber, Rikuu Nishida, Ryan Galanie, and Mario Camilletti.
The result officially eliminates Charlotte from playoff contention, although a victory would not have changed the narrative. Charlotte still sits two games above .500 in the second half and are two games shy of winning 80 this season with four left to play. The last time the Knights reached 80 wins was 2012.
Charlotte and Norfolk are back in action on Thursday afternoon with a 12:05pm ET scheduled first pitch.
