LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – The Charlotte Knights received a spectacular pitching performance on Thursday night and edged the Gwinnett Stripers by a final score of 1-0. The shutout win was the third straight pitcher’s duel between the Knights and the Stripers, and the second victory of the series for Charlotte.
The Knights’ offense generated more chances throughout the contest, but neither team plated a run across the first eight innings. Finally, Charlotte broke through with a run in the top of the ninth and it was the only tally needed.
Mario Camilletti singled with one out and went to second on a wild pitch. Following a walk drawn by Riley Unroe, Dru Baker looped an RBI single into left that scored Camilletti.
Jonathan Cannon spearheaded the Knights pitching attack. Cannon worked 5.1 scoreless frames and struck out four. Chris Murphy, Adisyn Coffey, Shane Smith, and Tanner McDougal all kept the shutout intact out of the bullpen.
McDougal earned the win by pitching a scoreless eighth and ninth inning. The crunch-time performance resulted in the right-hander’s first victory of the season. Game Four of the series is set for Friday night at 7:05pm ET.
