CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte Knights and the Durham Bulls took the field for two games on Wednesday night and each club came away with a win. Charlotte opened the double-header with a 4-1 victory while Durham claimed the nightcap 7-1.
In Game One, the Knights rode a masterful starting pitching performance by right-hander Jonathan Cannon. For the third consecutive appearance, Cannon fired six innings of one-run ball and in a seven-inning contest, it was more than enough for the Knights to cruise to victory.
Offensively, Charlotte received an RBI single from Mario Camilletti and an RBI double from Dru Baker in the bottom of the second inning.
Ryan Galanie doubled the lead with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third – Galanie’s 18th round-tripper of the season. Korey Lee added a pair of hits and a walk in the win.
Hagen Smith worked the final frame and notched his first save of the year. Smith did not allow a hit and struck out one.
Game Two was a different story and went the way of the visitors. Durham hit a two-run Home Run in the second inning and added three more runs in the fourth.
Charlotte’s offense attempted to claw their way back into the contest with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Knights were turned away from any further damage. The Bulls tacked on a pair of late runs to clinch the double-header split.
The series continues on Thursday night at Truist Field with Game Three scheduled for 7:04pm ET.
