CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte Knights dropped a tight ballgame to the Memphis Redbirds on Thursday night, 3-2 in ten innings. Neither team was able to muster much offensively throughout the game until the visiting Redbirds pushed across their automatic runner in the final frame for the game deciding run.
Davis Martin shined in his first outing with the Knights this season. Martin took the mound in a Major League rehab appearance and pitched five shutout innings. The right-hander limited the Redbirds to only one hit and struck out five.
Andy Weber crushed a two-run homer for Charlotte in his initial at-bat and provided the home team with an early 2-0 lead. Weber finished the contest 2-for-4 and was the lone Knight with a multi-hit game.
Memphis scored both of their regulation runs in the top of the sixth thanks to a two-out, bases loaded double. Following the game-tying hit, Nick Altermatt, Aidan Anderson, Jaden Woods, and Garrett Schoenle were all effective down the stretch.
The contest remained knotted up 2-2 after nine innings and the Redbirds used an RBI single in the top of the tenth to take the lead. The Knights were unable to push their automatic runner across and suffered their second straight defeat at the hands of the Redbirds.
Charlotte and Memphis return to the diamond on Friday evening with a special 5:05pm first pitch at Truist Field.
