NASHVILLE, TN – This weekend in Nashville was not the kindest to the Charlotte Knights. Charlotte was on a six-game winning streak heading into Friday night, but the team dropped two straight, then were unable to hold a late lead on Sunday evening.
The result was a 5-3 loss to the Nashville Sounds and a three-game skid heading into an all-important homestand on Tuesday.
Jose Urquidy made his second start of the series and the newly acquired pitcher kept the Knights in the ballgame. Urquidy surrendered an early run, but Korey Lee’s RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth knotted the score 1-1.
Nashville jumped back in front 2-1 before Austin Hays came up with a big two-out, two-run homer in the top of the eighth. The blast put the Knights in front by a run; however, the lead was short lived. The Sounds rallied for three runs in the bottom of the inning and Charlotte was down to their final three outs.
The top of the ninth inning became a bit interesting when Charlotte worked a trio of walks to load the bases. Unfortunately, a double-play ended the rally and the game.
The Knights are back at Truist Field on Tuesday to open a six-game series against the first place Durham Bulls. Charlotte has owned Durham this season to a tune of a 10-2 head-to-head record thus far.
