Reading, PA (August 11, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, fell to the Reading Fightin Phils, the Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, by a 9-5 final on Tuesday night.
Chesapeake (22-18, 51-57) started fast on Tuesday, scoring the game’s first four runs in the opening two frames. After a Brandon Butterworth double and Victor Figueroa walk, Wehiwa Aloy launched a no-doubt, three-run homer to deep left-center field to establish an early 3-0 Baysox advantage. The first inning long ball was the third for Aloy in his first 14 Double-A games and his 18th of the minor league season – good for second-most among all players on the Baltimore farm. Aron Estrada brought home a Tavian Josenberger triple with a groundout in the second to add on another run to make it 4-0.
Meanwhile, left-handed starter Caden Hunter got off to an equally hot start on Tuesday. Hunter struck out six of the first seven hitters he faced, with a leadoff walk in the second inning serving as the only exception.
In the third inning, the script flipped in Reading’s favor. A leadoff infield hit was followed by three-consecutive walks to force a run home. A bloop single brought home a second Reading run to make it 4-2. Two batters later, Reading’s Alex Binelas unloaded a grand slam to send the Fightin Phils on top, 6-4. Hunter (L, 1-2) finished the third, with six runs allowed on three hits with four walks and the six strikeouts.
The Fightin Phils tallied an unearned run in the fourth, before Estrada drove home his second run of the night on an opposite-field solo homer in the top of the fifth – his seventeenth homer of the season, tying him with Ethan Anderson for the team lead. Binelas answered back with his second homer of the night a half-inning later – a two-run shot that established a four-run Reading edge.
The Baysox had some chances in the late innings, but were unable to cash in. Frederick Bencosme tallied his sixth game of three or more hits on a 3-for-4 night. Aloy reached base three times with a couple of walks following the first inning homer, while Butterworth finished with a pair of doubles. However, Chesapeake would finish 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position and left 10 on-base Tuesday. Following Reading right-handed starter Jean Cabrera, fellow Fightin Phils righty Daniel Harper (W, 1-2) tossed a pair of shutout frames in a scoreless five-inning showing from Reading relievers on Tuesday.
Chesapeake continues the series in Reading on Wednesday night. Left-hander Joseph Dzierwa (2-1, 2.07 ERA) takes the ball for the Baysox against Fightin Phils right-hander Luke Russo (9-6, 4.28 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm from FirstEnergy Stadium.
The Baysox return home on Tuesday, August 18, when they open up a six-game set with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. First pitch on Tuesday is set for 6:35 pm ET.
