Bowie, MD (September 1, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, used a five-run sixth inning to flip the script and down the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, by a 6-4 final on Tuesday night.
Chesapeake (32-25, 61-64) entered the bottom of the sixth trailing 2-0, looking for answers against Portland left-handed starter Dalton Rogers, who allowed just two baserunners in the opening five frames. With one out, seven consecutive Baysox batters reached. An Aron Estrada opposite-field single was the opening act for back-to-back homers from Vance Honeycutt and Ethan Anderson to put Chesapeake on top. Honeycutt’s second Double-A long ball was an opposite field shot that soared an estimated 410 feet. It was followed by a lined shot into left field for Anderson’s nineteenth Double-A long ball of the campaign that chased Rogers (L, 2-5). It was the sixth time this season that Baysox players clubbed back-to-back homers.
Honeycutt has registered a hit in seven of his first 10 starts with the Baysox. The former Orioles first round pick is hitting .289 with a 1.005 OPS in his first 11 Double-A contests.
Anderson made his first appearance at Prince George’s Stadium since June 27 on Tuesday. This season, he’s hitting .360 with 15 homers and an 1.189 OPS at home with the Baysox.
Chesapeake wasn’t done there, consecutive singles from Wehiwa Aloy and Victor Figueroa, followed by a hit by pitch, loaded the bases for Thomas Sosa, who punctuated the frame with a two-run, opposite-field single to make the score 5-2.
Aloy and Figueroa would each add a second single of the night in the eighth inning, with the later plating Aloy for Chesapeake’s final run of the evening. Figueroa now has multiple hits in four of his last six games and is hitting .400 (10-for-25) during that stretch.
On the mound, Baysox pitching collected 15 strikeouts on Tuesday night. Left-handed starter Caden Hunter struck out nine, including five looking, in five innings of work. Hunter walked two and yielded three hits. His lone damage allowed was a two-run homer to Henry Godbout in the third inning.
Hunter’s 147 strikeouts across all levels rank fourth in Minor League Baseball. His 45 strikeouts since his Double-A debut on July 29 are second-most at the level.
Right-hander Richard Guasch (W, 3-0) worked a scoreless sixth. Portland scored a two-out run on a Caden Rose double in the seventh off right-hander Alex Pham, who struck out three in the seventh. Left-hander Micah Ashman lowered his season ERA with the Baysox to 1.75 with a scoreless eighth inning. Ashman’s ERA is the second lowest of any Double-A reliever with at least 45 innings at the level.
The Sea Dogs managed to add a run in the top of the ninth on a sacrifice fly, but right-hander Jeisson Cabrera (S, 6) allowed no further damage.
The Baysox have won four of their last five games. They trail the Erie SeaWolves by five-and-a-half games for the Eastern League Southwest division second half playoff spot with 11 games remaining on the schedule for both sides.
Chesapeake continues its final homestand of the regular season with Portland on Wednesday night. Left-hander Joseph Dzierwa (AA: 3-1, 2.21 ERA) is set to start for the Baysox against Sea Dogs southpaw Hayden Mullins (AA: 3-5, 4.46 ERA). First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 6:35 pm from Prince George’s Stadium.
