Bowie, MD (July 18, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, came up clutch against the Hartford Yard Goats, the Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, in a back-and-forth 4-3 win Saturday.
Chesapeake (11-8), who scored all of its runs in the seventh or later, used a three-run eighth inning to down Hartford. Aron Estrada put the Baysox ahead on a RBI single before left-hander Sebastian Gongora sealed the win by only giving up one run across the final four innings.
In an early pitcher's duel, Hartford struck first to a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning as Jose Torres lifted a two-run homer against Baysox left-handed starter Joseph Dzierwa. In a no decision, Dzierwa only gave up those two runs across four and a third innings, conceding three hits and two walks to a pair of strikeouts. The Orioles' No. 3 prospect retired nine of the first ten batters he faced.
Hartford opposed Dzierwa by starting lefty Stu Flesland III, who pitched a hitless and scoreless first five frames.
In the seventh, the Baysox cut the Yard Goats' 2-0 lead in half. Anderson De Los Santos led the inning off with a double and scampered home to make it 2-1 when the Baysox grounded into a double play.
The Yard Goats went back up two runs a half inning later. Roc Riggio hit a two-out solo home run for a 3-1 Hartford lead in the eighth.
The Baysox responded by batting around with their lead-taking eighth inning. Brandon Butterworth got the scoring started with a one-run single that scored Willy Vasquez to make it 3-2 Yard Goats.
A batter later, Anderson De Los Santos walked while facing Hartford right-hander Davison Palermo (L, 3-4) on a game-tying wild pitch that brought Tavian Josenberger home.
After Palermo was lifted, Estrada faced Hartford's Austin Smith and had the biggest hit of the night. Estrada's a RBI single that scored Butterworth to put Chesapeake ahead with the 4-3 final score behind Gongora (W, 8-4).
Chesapeake finishes its three-game series against Hartford Sunday. Baysox left-hander and reigning Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Luis De León (4-6, 4.76 ERA) is scheduled to start as the Yard Goats counter with righty Jackson Cox (2-2, 4.35 ERA). First pitch is set for 1:05 pm Sunday from Prince George’s Stadium.
