Bowie, MD (September 3, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, lost late to the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, in a 5-4 final Thursday.
Chesapeake (33-26, 52-65) led 4-1 heading into the seventh, but Portland scored the game's final four runs on three solo home runs and a sacrifice fly. The Sea Dogs' Henry Godbout hit two home runs during the span with the latter hit being a go-ahead home run in the ninth.
In the home half of the inning, the Baysox threatened for a second walk-off in as many days with the game-tying run at second and winning run at first in Griff O'Ferrall and Ethan Anderson, respectively, but Chesapeake grounded into a game-ending double play.
On the month anniversary of being traded to the Orioles' organization, Baysox right-handed starter Anthony Eyanson pitched six one-run innings of a no-decision. The O's No. 2 prospect via MLB.com gave up just four hits and no walks to eight strikeouts, earning his second quality start in his last three outings.
Eyanson faced the minimum across the last two and two-third innings with five of the 11 batters being struck out.
Eyanson, who made 11 appearances for Portland earlier this season, has pitched to a 2-1 record and 2.00 ERA with 40 strikeouts to eight walks in five starts for Chesapeake. The first-year professional has fanned at least seven batters in all five Baysox outings.
The Baysox plated the game's first run five batters in. After back-to-back singles by Vance Honeycutt and Anderson proceeded a strikeout, Anderson De Los Santos smoked a RBI double that one-hopped the left center field wall and scored Honeycutt.
The Sea Dogs scored their lone run against Eyanson in the second. Brooks Brannon (2-for-4, 2B) led the inning off with a home run to left field.
Against Portland left-handed starter Devin Futrell, Chesapeake added to its lead with a three-run second. Colin Tuft got the scoring started with a one-out solo home run to right center field. Tuft's third Double-A homer in 13 games put the Baysox ahead 2-1.
A flyout followed up Tuft's homer and made way for four consecutive Baysox singles beginning with Fernando Peguero and O'Ferrall both reaching. First, Peguero sped from third to home for a 3-1 lead on a Honeycutt infield single.
Honeycutt, Wednesday's walk-off hero with a RBI single in the tenth, finished Thursday's game 3-for-5 with a RBI and run scored.
Honeycutt leads all Baysox batters with a .313 average (15-for-48) and 10 RBI in 13 games since being promoted on September 18.
For Chesapeake's fifth hit of the inning, Ethan Anderson knocked a RBI single to shallow left field that scored O'Ferrall for a 4-1 advantage.
O'Ferrall finished the game 3-for-4, his second three-hit game this season.
Eyanson was relieved by righty Richard Guasch to begin the seventh. Portland cut Chesapeake's lead to one by hitting two solo home runs in a three-batter span during the inning.
The Sea Dogs tied the game in the eighth inning. Tyler McDonough doubled and came around to score on a Justin Gonzales sacrifice fly to center.
Portland righty Max Carlson (W, 5-2) pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth inning to earn the win.
In the ninth, Godbout's second home run came against Chesapeake lefty Micah Ashman (L, 2-2) and gave Portland its first lead of the game at 5-4.
Portland righty Caleb Bolden (S, 2) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save.
Chesapeake continues its final homestand of the regular season with Portland on Friday night. Right-hander JT Quinn (AA: 1-0, 3.46 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Baysox against Sea Dogs lefty Michael Sansone (3-3, 5.36 ERA). First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:05 pm from Prince George’s Stadium.
