Richmond, VA (September 8, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, began their final series of the 2026 season with a Tuesday night domination of the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Chesapeake claimed an 11-3 game in a contest that featured four home runs, including the first multi-homer game as a professional for Vance Honeycutt.
Honeycutt’s first long ball set the tone for Chesapeake; it was a solo shot two batters into the contest. His opposite-field drive granted the Baysox an early 1-0 lead.
Honeycutt came back to the plate in the fifth and hit his second long ball of the night. On a center-cut fastball, he demolished it an estimated 449 feet out to left center.
The 2024 Orioles first round selection is now hitting .344 with five home runs and an 1.175 OPS in his first 17 games at Double-A with the Baysox. Honeycutt has homered three times in his past two games. Tuesday also marked the first time in his career that Honeycutt has homered in consecutive contests.
Chesapeake (35-28, 64-67) totaled four home runs on Tuesday. In a return to the state he called home most of his life, Ethan Anderson walloped a three-run homer to punctuate a five-run second inning. It was Anderson’s twentieth long ball with the Baysox this season and the twenty-first of his minor league season. Runs scored earlier in the frame on a Tavian Josenberger RBI single and a balk. The first six runs all scored against Richmond right-handed starter Miguel Mendez (L, 0-1).
Chesapeake’s final homer of the night came courtesy of its home run leader – Aron Estrada. Estrada followed up a sixth inning single from Wehiwa Aloy with an opposite-field, two-run shot to left field. Estrada’s twenty-fourth homer of the season puts him two off the Eastern League lead.
The Baysox finished Tuesday night with a combined 15 hits. All nine starters finished with at least one knock. In a return to his hometown, Griff O’Ferrall notched the third four-hit night of his professional career and second of the season. Matching his total from May 29 in Erie, O’Ferrall drove home a run with a single in the fourth and finished 4-for-5 with three singles and a double.
Left-handed starter Caden Hunter went the opening four frames for Chesapeake on Tuesday. Hunter struck out four. He allowed three unearned runs in the second inning, due to a pair of Chesapeake errors.
Right-hander Andrew Herbert followed Hunter and made his Double-A debut on Tuesday. Herbert (W, 1-0) tossed four shoutout frames with just one hit allowed. He walked three and struck out three. Herbert made 17 previous appearances with Single-A Delmarva after having his contract purchased by the Orioles from the independent Frontier League back in May. Right-hander Tyson Neighbors worked a scoreless ninth with a pair of strikeouts.
The Baysox continue their final series of the 2026 season in Richmond on Wednesday night. Left-hander Joseph Dzierwa (AA: 3-1, 2.43 ERA) takes the ball for Chesapeake, against Flying Squirrels left-hander Charlie McDaniel (3-4, 5.40 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm from CarMax Park.
