Bowie, MD (September 4, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, pitched past the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, in a 3-1 final Friday.
Chesapeake (34-26, 53-65) scored a run in the third, fourth, and sixth to take a 3-0 lead into the eighth inning. Portland then added a late run to cut the Baysox lead to two before Chesapeake turned to righty reliever Ryan Long to pitch the ninth. Long faced the minimum and fanned two for his first professional save since 2023.
Baysox right-handed starter JT Quinn tossed five scoreless innings in his fourth Double-A start. The Orioles' No. 14 prospect, via MLB.com, gave up three hits and two walks to five strikeouts for his first scoreless start with the Baysox.
Chesapeake is now 4-0 this season in games started by Quinn (W, 2-0), who's pitched to a 2.50 ERA (five earned runs in 18 innings) so far at the level.
The Baysox bats supported Quinn with a run in the second inning. Vance Honeycutt lugged out a two-out double before he scored on a Victor Figueroa RBI single to right field a pitch later.
Against Sea Dogs right-handed starter Morgan McSweeney, who pitched parts of three seasons for the Baysox, Chesapeake took a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Frederick Bencosme blasted a towering leadoff home run off of McSweeney (L, 1-1) that just ducked inside the right field foul pole for his 12th homer of the year.
Quinn was relieved to start the sixth by righty Jeisson Cabrera, who pitched a one-two-three frame when the Baysox turned their second double play in as many innings. Cabrera got in on the action, too, by ending the sixth with a one-four-three twin killing.
Chesapeake went ahead 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth against Portland lefty reliever Jeremy Wu-Yelland. The first three Baysox reached safely to start the inning, a streak that began with a Griff O'Ferrall single and ended with O'Ferrall scoring on a Tavian Josenberger RBI single to right field.
Cabrera came back out to start the seventh but, after giving up a few baserunners, was relieved by righty Alex Pham. Pham struck out the first three batters he faced to keep Cabrera's line unblemished at one scoreless inning.
Pham worked into the eighth before being replaced by righty Brock Moore. With a runner at third, Pham was charged with a run when Portland's Henry Godbout (3-for-4, RBI) hit a RBI single to cut Chesapeake's lead to 3-1.
Long (S, 1) finished the job in the ninth inning and earned his 14th scoreless Double-A outing this season.
The Baysox continue their final homestand of the regular season against the Sea Dogs on Saturday night. Right-hander Pat Reilly (AA: 0-2, 4.33 ERA) is set to pitch for Chesapeake against Portland righty Alex Bouchard (0-0, 15.00 ERA). First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 6:35 pm from Prince George’s Stadium.
