Richmond, VA (September 11, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles fell to the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, by an 1-0 final on Friday night.
Chesapeake (37-29, 66-68) got a second consecutive scoreless start from right-hander JT Quinn. The first-year pro was coming off his first scoreless outing at the level last Friday against Portland and dominated again on Friday night in Richmond.
Quinn threw just 20 pitches in the first two frames, including a four-pitch first inning. He loaded the bases with one out on two singles and a walk but generated an inning-ending double-play grounder to second to remain unscathed. Quinn finished his outing by collecting his third strikeout. Friday night was the fifth overall scoreless performance in his debut professional campaign, after being drafted by the Orioles 69th overall out of the University of Georgia last year.
Opportunities to score were few and far between for both sides. In the top of the first, Griff O’Ferrall led off the ballgame by earning a 10-pitch walk. He stole second and advanced to third on an errant throw. With one out, Ethan Anderson flew out to right field, where a strong, one-hop throw was enough for O’Ferrall to be tagged out trying to score the game’s opening run on a close play at the plate.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth. Richmond struck for the game’s only run via a Gavin Kielin solo homer to right field off Baysox right-hander Brandon Downer (L,0-1) who was making his Double-A debut.
Chesapeake was held in check by Richmond southpaw starter Jacob Bresnahan (W, 1-1), who matched a career-high with seven, shutout innings on Friday. He held the Baysox to just four singles and the lone walk. Chesapeake got the tying run on base in both the eighth and ninth innings, but right-hander Tyler Vogel (S, 16) helped the Squirrels bullpen close the deal with a scoreless ninth.
Left-hander Micah Ashman worked a scoreless ninth inning to lower his Baysox ERA on the season to 1.79.
The Baysox continue their final series of the 2026 season in Richmond on Saturday night. Right-hander Pat Reilly (AA: 0-2, 3.97 ERA) takes the ball for Chesapeake, against Flying Squirrels left-hander Greg Farone (5-11, 5.64 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm from CarMax Park.
