
Bowie, MD (August 18, 2026) – In conjunction with the Baltimore Orioles, the Chesapeake Baysox announced today that Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo is scheduled to have his MLB rehab assignment transferred to Double-A Chesapeake.
Basallo turned 22-years-old just five days ago. He has spent the entire season on Baltimore’s roster, playing in 86 games. Basallo has hit .241 so far this season, hitting 16 home runs and 46 RBI with a .755 OPS. He has not played since July 19, three days after the All-Star Break. He made his major league debut just 366 days ago, on August 17, 2025. He became the 227th former Baysox player to make his major league debut.
Basallo originally joined the Baysox on September 12, 2023, when he was called up from High-A Aberdeen for the final week of the regular season. He spent the majority of 2024 with the Baysox, featuring in 106 games and batting .289 with 22 doubles, 16 home runs, and 55 RBI. He was selected to play in the 2024 MLB All-Star Futures Game in Arlington, Texas that year. He earned promotion to Triple-A Norfolk on August 27, 2024. Following the season, he was named the Eastern League’s Top MLB Prospect for 2024.
Basallo began his MLB rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, going 1-for-4 with a double and three RBI, while catching for the game’s first seven innings.
Basallo is slated to join Chesapeake on Tuesday night, as the Baysox open a six-game home series with the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
