Jordan Groshans went 3-for-5 and clocked his 30th home run with Columbus in 2026 and combined with a 5-for-5 game from John Gil to help the Columbus Clingstones (30-27, 59-62) breeze past the the Chattanooga Lookouts (19-38, 56-70) in a 6-2 win on Sunday afternoon at Erlanger Park.
Decisive Plays: A two-out RBI from Owen Carey started the scoring in the first inning for Columbus. An RBI double from Gil made it 2-0 in the second inning. Groshans smashed a two-run home run (30) in the third inning to make it a 4-0 lead. Chattanooga threatened to claw back in the game with an RBI double from Julio Carreras in the fifth inning and a leadoff home run from Cam Collier in the sixth inning, but Carson Taylor slammed the door on that idea with a two-run home run (5) in the seventh inning to make it 6-2.
Key Contributors: Gil (5-for-5, 2B, RBI) and Groshans (3-for-5, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, SB) put together two of the best offensive games of the season for Columbus while Taylor (1-for-5, HR, 2 RBI) provided a key shot of insurance. For Chattanooga, Collier (1-for-4, HR, RBI) helped the Lookouts threaten in the sixth inning.
Notable: Gil recorded the first five-hit game in Clingstones history. Groshans 30th home run of the season marks the first 30-homer campaign for a Braves' Double-A player since Leo Vargas hit 32 home runs for Savannah in 1981. Groshans finishes August with nearly as many home runs (11) as strikeouts (15).
