COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Atlanta Braves today announced that left-handed pitcher Cam Caminiti, infielder John Gil, and outfielders Owen Carey and Eric Hartman have been transferred to the Columbus Clingstones from High-A Rome. The four players, all ranked among Atlanta's Top 15 prospects list, will join the club for its upcoming six-game homestand against the Biloxi Shuckers.
Caminiti, Atlanta's No. 1 prospect, was selected by the Braves with the 24th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Saguaro High School (Ariz). The 19-year-old left-hander joins Columbus after going 3-4 with a 3.89 ERA across 18 games (17 starts) with High-A Rome. He recorded 93 strikeouts in 83.1 innings, including a career-best 14 in his final start with Rome on July 31 at Hub City. Caminiti is also the cousin of former National League Most Valuable Player Ken Caminiti, who starred for the Columbus Astors in 1986 and the first half of 1987 before making his Major League debut with Houston.
Hartman, Atlanta's No. 2 prospect, was selected by the Braves in the 20th round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Holy Trinity Academy in Alberta, Canada. A late-round selection, the 20-year-old has quickly developed into one of the organization's premier prospects. Across 94 games with High-A Rome, Hartman batted .273 with 18 doubles, 24 home runs, 64 RBI, and 38 stolen bases. He became the first Braves Minor League player since Ronald Acuña Jr. in 2017 to record 20 home runs and 30 stolen bases, reaching the milestone in his 71st game with Rome on July 1.
Gil, Atlanta's No. 6 prospect, is the only member of the group with previous Double-A experience, appearing in six games with Columbus during the club's inaugural season in 2025. The 20-year-old infielder signed with the Braves as an international free agent in January 2023 and has batted .242 with 11 doubles, 12 home runs, 47 RBI, and 43 stolen bases over 95 games with Rome this season. Gil also remains the youngest player to appear with Columbus in club history, making his debut on September 9, 2025, at Pensacola at 19 years, 3 months, and 26 days.
Carey, Atlanta's No. 15 prospect, was selected by the Braves in the 15th round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Londonberry High School in New Hampshire. The 20-year-old outfielder batted .272 with 10 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 37 RBI, and 3 stolen bases across 53 games with Rome. He hit safely in 13 of his final 17 games with Rome before his assignment to Columbus.
The additions represent one of the most significant influxes of young talent in franchise history. Caminiti is scheduled to become the first No. 1 Braves prospect to appear with Columbus when he takes the mound on Thursday, Aug. 6. Collectively, the four players have lowered the average age of the active roster to 24.9 years old, nearly six months younger than the club's roster entering the week.
