COLUMBUS, OH - It was finally a beautiful night for baseball in Ohio's capital city on Tuesday night after a record week of rainfall. The St. Paul Saints came to town, and were promptly greeted with an offensive onslaught by the Clippers. Columbus won 19-3 in a game that was not as close as the score would indicate.
The red-hot David Fry led the charge, crushing a three-run homer in the 1st inning and adding a RBI-single in the 2nd to account for the first four Clippers runs. Fry is now hitting .294 with six homers in eight games since joining the club.
Columbus was just getting rolling. Kyle Manzardo came up next and deposited a three-run jack into the Pedialyte Porch in right field. Then Ralphy Velazquez poured gasoline on the fire when he launched a two-run missile over the wall in center field. It was Ralphy's 15th long ball with the Clippers this season, and it gave the good guys a 9-2 lead over the schmucks from St. Paul.
The home run fest continued in the 4th inning when Kahlil Watson smacked his 15th long ball of the season over the left-center field wall with a man on.
Fry got his 5th RBI of the evening on a groundout in the bottom of the 6th inning, bringing the score to 11-3.
Things got laughable in the bottom of the 8th when Columbus tacked on another seven runs, highlighted by a grand slam by Milan Tolentino.
Right-hander Austin Peterson (2-8) was solid over 5.0 innings, allowing just two runs while striking out six.
The victory gives Columbus an overall record this season of 64-54, while St. Paul falls to 69-51.
