COLUMBUS, OH - In the immortal words of Limp Bizkit, it's just one of those days. For Clippers third baseman David Fry, Friday was literally his day, and he helped Columbus knock off the visiting Omaha Storm Chasers, 6-2.
Entering the night with four homers in his last three games, Fry went yard again as part of a 2-for-4, 2 RBI evening.
Two runs came home in the bottom of the 1st inning after Fry singled to center field which was misplayed by Omaha. When he returned to the plate in the 3rd, he deposited a 92-mph sinker into the lawn seating beyond the left-center field wall to make it 3-0 Clippers.
A run-scoring sacrifice fly by Kyle Manzardo in the 5th extended the Clippers lead to 4-0.
Omaha finally dented the plate in the 6th, but there was no comeback on this night. The Clippers put to rest any doubt in the bottom of the 8th when Dayan Frias doubled in two more runs to make it 6-1. The Storm Chasers snuck in one more run in the 9th before Mekka Don's music hit the Huntington Park speakers.
Hours after being activated off the injured list, right-handed starter Ben Lively took the hill and delivered an impressive effort for Columbus. His stomach may have been in knots, but Lively gave up just two hits in 4.0 scoreless innings, striking out three.
The victory gives Columbus an overall record this season of 62-54, while Omaha falls to 56-60.
