COLUMBUS, OH - The latest chapter of the amazing comeback story of pitcher Justin Campbell was written Thursday night at Huntington Park, as the big right-hander tossed 4.2 scoreless innings for Los Veleros. Campbell's effort set the tone for a night dominated early on by the pitchers, but ultimately the visiting Iowa Cubs prevailed, 4-2.
The first three runs of the night came in the top of the 7th, after a defensive miscue by Columbus kept the inning alive a little too long.
It was a toasty night in downtown Columbus, but the over 7,000 fans in attendance didn't let that stop them from enjoying fine ballpark cuisine such as the crunchy brisket nachos at Sandwiches on Deck. The Clippers faithful, human and canine alike, were treated to great food and outstanding baseball.
Campbell allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out five. It was his longest outing since being activated from the injured list.
Columbus trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 8th, but the home team sprung to life with back-to-back solo home runs by Kahlil Watson and Kyle Manzardo.
The loss leaves Columbus with a record of 71-61 for the season, while Iowa improves to 56-76.
