COLUMBUS, OH - Don't know the reason, stayed here all season, and on Margaritaville Night Friday over 8,200 members of the Clippers faithful turned out for a 5-1 victory over the visiting St. Paul Saints. All of those tourists were covered with oil and cheering as the Clippers pitching staff found that lost shaker of salt.
Right-handed starter Ben Lively kept St. Paul off the scoreboard for 4.2 innings, scattering three hits and striking out four. Hunter Stanley (2-1) got the win in relief on the strength of 2.1 one-run innings.
Columbus catcher Kody Huff broke the scoreless tie in the 4th inning with a solo homer to left-center, his career-high 19th blast of the year.
The Clippers scored three times in the 5th, one on a RBI single by Daniel Schneemann, and two on a double by Kyle Manzardo when the Saints couldn't find his fly ball in the evening sky.
Then in the 6th, Milan Tolentino deposited his 17th home run of the season into the Pedialyte Porch to give the Clippers a five-run lead.
As always, following the 6th inning came a nightly Huntington Park tradition that is undoubtedly the best mascot race in sports. In Columbus, we don't race sausages, perogies, or buffalo wings. We race hot dogs, and on this night it was Kelly Ketchup that sprinted first through the finish line.
Columbus now owns an overall record this season of 65-56, while St. Paul falls in humiliating fashion to 71-52.
The skies over Huntington Park will light up on Saturday night. The Clippers meet the Saints at 7:05pm, to be followed by a special fireworks extravaganza! The series will end on Sunday afternoon, which is Family Day presented by Medical Mutual. Get Clippers tickets with lower online fees than ever at ClippersBaseball.com.
