COLUMBUS, OH - On a picture-perfect afternoon for baseball in the Arena District, the Columbus Clippers defeated the Toledo Mud Hens in front of over 8,300 fans, 9-5.
The ball was flying out of Huntington Park early and often. Seven home runs left the yard on the day in a game that saw 23 total hits between the two clubs.
The home run parade was launched in the 2nd inning, beginning with a two-run blast off the bat of catcher Bo Naylor. Cooper Ingle also went deep later in the frame, and the Clippers led 5-0 after two.
Left fielder Ralphy Velazquez hit a solo bomb in the 3rd inning, his sixth Triple-A homer.
The Mud Hens got in on the act with two home runs of their own in a four-run 5th inning, but Columbus responded in the 6th when George Valera's fifth homer of the year made it a 7-4 game in favor of the Clippers. Columbus added insurance runs in the 7th and 8th.
Lefty Logan Allen (5-3) worked the first 5.0 innings, striking out five with four runs allowed.
With three straight wins over the Hens, Columbus now has an overall record of 55-49, while Toledo drops to 50-54.
