MIDLAND - Zane Taylor struck out eight as the RockHounds held the Hooks to two hits Saturday night, dispatching Corpus Christi, 6-1, before 4,904 fans at Momentum Bank Ballpark.
Despite the loss, the Hooks can win their final series with a victory on Sunday.
Will Bush and Hector Salas were the only Corpus Christi hitters who reached base. Bush worked a second-inning walk before blasting a lead-off homer in the fifth. The Fort Worth native now has 13 home runs to go along with 12 doubles and 16 steals. Bush has earned his way aboard in 85 of 98 games.
Salas, who has hit safely in 13 of 18 Texas League contests, drew a two-out walk in the sixth and looped a single into left in the ninth.
The Hounds turned a nifty double play on the next pitch to end the game as Taylor and four relievers teamed to face two over the minimum.
Hooks starter James Hicks allowed three runs in the first but bounced back by blanking Midland from the second through the fourth. Cameron Leary's double down the right-field line keyed a two-out, three-run rally in the fifth, denying Hicks of finishing the fifth.
Alejandro Torres struck out two in two scoreless innings. Max Martin, making his second Double-A appearance, retired four of five batters faced.
