Mayer Earns Honors En Route to PCL

CORPUS CHRISTI - Right-hander Bryce Mayer has been promoted to the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys. Mayer, listed by MLB.com as the top Astros pitching prospect, posted a 3.58 ERA in 24 Corpus Christi outings (18 GS) over the past 2 seasons, striking out 137 in 98.0 innings.

Mayer has been selected as the current Texas League Pitcher of the Week after striking out 9 over 6.0 shutout innings for a 2nd consecutive start. 

Mayer, who led the Hooks to a 3rd straight win on Saturday in Frisco, has allowed only 1 run over his last 6 appearances, spanning 30.2 IP. During this stretch, the 16th-round pick from 2024 is 4-0 with a 0.29 ERA, striking out 41 vs. 9 hits & 14 walks.

Reaching 100 strikeouts for the year and lowering his ERA to 2.61, Mayer permitted only 3 baserunners, all singles on Saturday. A bunt base hit to begin the fifth snapped a stretch of 10 consecutive outs by Mayer.

The Mizzou Tiger has started 2 of the 5 Corpus Christi shutouts this season, doing so in each of the past 2 weeks. 

The Astros named Mayer as their Pitcher of the Month for July after the 24-year-old went 2-0 with a 0.47 ERA in 4 games (3 GS) last month.
