FRISCO - For a second consecutive start, Bryce Mayer struck out nine over six shutout innings, heading a 7-0 Hooks win Saturday night at Riders Field.
Mayer has allowed only one run over his last six appearances, spanning 30.2 innings. During this span, the Astros top pitching prospect is 4-0 with a 0.29 ERA, striking out 41 vs. nine hits and 14 walks.
Reaching 100 strikeouts for the year and lowering his season ERA to 2.61, Mayer permitted only three baserunners on Friday, all singles. A bunt base hit to begin the fifth snapped a stretch of 10 consecutive outs by Mayer.
With his club ahead 4-0, Railin Perez allowed a double and a single to start the seventh, but Perez countered with a ground ball double play and a pop up to keep Frisco off the board.
Joey Mancini struck out four vs. one hit the eighth and ninth as the Hooks picked up their fifth shutout win of 2026. The previous was started by Mayer last Saturday vs. Amarillo.
Building a 3-0 lead on Friday, the Hooks capitalized on four first-inning walks thanks to a sac fly by Chase Call and Cameron Sisneros' two-out, two-run single.
Sisneros made it a three-RBI day in the fifth, smashing a two-out single into left, driving in Trevor Austin who drew a lead-off walk.
The Hooks added a pair of two-out runs for more insurance in the eighth. Along with a Max Holy walk, Tyler Whitaker, Alejandro Nuñez, Yamal Encarnacion, and Jason Schiavone all notched singles.
Encarnacion carved out his club-best 45th RBI as Schiavone plated his 65th run of the year with a 105-MPH base hit to left.
Call, who clubbed his first pro grand slam on Thursday, launched a no-doubt blast to left in the ninth. Call, whose fourth Double-A homer carried an exit velocity of 111 MPH, ranks second in the Astros system with 19 home runs
