The Dayton Dragons, in conjunction with the Cincinnati Reds, announced the following roster changes today:
Catcher Ryan McCrystal has been promoted from Dayton to Chattanooga (Double-A).
Right-handed pitcher Ovis Portes has been promoted to Dayton from the Daytona Tortugas (Single-A).
Infielder Victor Acosta has been promoted to Dayton from the ACL Reds (Rookie-level).
McCrystal was the Dragons co-Batter of the Month for April. He has appeared in 22 of the Dragons 27 games this season, batting .286 with one home run and 21 runs batted in, ranking tied for third in the Midwest League in RBI.
Portes, a starting pitcher who will make his High-A debut for the Dragons on Thursday, made five starts for Daytona, going 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA. He notched 34 strikeouts in 22.2 innings to rank second in the Florida State League. Portes was originally acquired by the Reds in a trade with Boston for Major League pitcher Lucas Sims at the trade deadline in 2024. Portes is believed to be the first player from the twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda to be signed by a Major League organization.
Acosta spent the 2024 and ’25 seasons with the Dragons and began this season with the Reds ACL affiliate (Rookie-level) as he begins a transition to playing the outfield. He is in the starting lineup tonight at third base.
