JUPITER, Fla. — Ichiro Cano tied his career high with four hits, while Alejandro Rivera delivered 4.1 dominant innings out of the bullpen as the Daytona Tortugas snapped a four-game losing streak with a 9-4 victory over the Palm Beach Cardinals on Friday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Cano finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored, while Daytona pounded out 14 hits and scored four times in the third and three more in the seventh to pull away.
The Rundown
Daytona opened the scoring in the second inning. Sherman Johnson singled before Cano ripped a double to left-center field that brought home Rafhlmil Torres for a 1-0 lead.
The Tortugas broke the game open with a four-run third. Arnaldo Lantigua started the rally with a single before Johnson doubled him home. Torres followed with a single, and Cano collected his second hit and second RBI with a single to make it 3-0. Henry Hunter followed with an RBI single before a bases-loaded walk to Jalen Hairston extended the advantage to 5-0.
Palm Beach answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning against Ryjeteri Merite. Kenly Hunter delivered an RBI single before Owen Henne connected on a two-run homer, cutting Daytona's lead to 5-3.
Rivera entered with two outs and immediately ended the inning with a strikeout. From there, the right-hander shut down the Cardinals.
Rivera allowed just one hit over 4.1 scoreless innings, striking out six and walking three. He faced 17 batters and allowed Palm Beach to advance just one runner beyond first base while earning his first Single-A victory.
Daytona put the game away with three runs in the seventh. Cano collected his fourth hit of the night with a single before Hunter added his second hit. Ian Francis drove in Cano with a single, and Drew Davies followed with a two-run double to right to stretch the lead to 8-3.
Francis added one more in the ninth, launching a solo home run to left-center field for his second homer of the season.
Jesus Colina handled the final two innings as Daytona closed out the 9-4 victory and snapped its four-game skid.

4 — Cano tied his career high with four hits for the fourth time in his career and second time this season. He last recorded four hits on June 21 at St. Lucie.
