DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Stharlin Torres fired five scoreless innings, Jalen Hairston homered and matched his career high with three hits, and the Daytona Tortugas defeated the Bradenton Marauders 6-4 on Thursday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Daytona scored first for the third straight night, built a six-run lead and turned four double plays to secure its third consecutive victory and a 3-0 series advantage.
The Rundown
Daytona opened the scoring without a hit in the first. Steele Hall, Bernard Moon and Arnaldo Lantigua drew consecutive walks before Ty Doucette brought home Hall with a fielder’s choice.
S. Torres worked around two hits in the opening inning by inducing a double play, then continued to control Bradenton from there. The right-hander allowed only four hits and one walk over five scoreless innings, striking out four while extending his scoreless streak to nine innings.
The Tortugas gave him additional support in the fourth. Rafhlmil Torres singled and Hairston followed with his second hit of the night before Ichiro Cano walked to load the bases. Hall then lined a two-run single to right-center for his first Single-A hit, extending Daytona’s lead to 3-0.
Daytona broke the game open in the sixth. R. Torres drew a leadoff walk before Hairston launched a two-run homer to right field, his fifth of the season. Cano and Hall followed with walks, then executed a double steal before Lantigua lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0.
Bradenton answered with three runs in the seventh, but Jake Brink entered with a runner aboard and struck out Eddie King Jr. to end the threat.
After allowing a solo homer to begin the ninth, Brink retired the next three batters and induced a game-ending double play to secure his first professional save.
