DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Rafhlmil Torres lined a walk-off single into right-center field in the bottom of the 10th inning, lifting the Daytona Tortugas to a 2-1 victory over the Bradenton Marauders on Friday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
The victory extended Daytona’s winning streak to four games and secured both the six-game series and the season series against Bradenton. The Tortugas have won the first four games of the week and now lead the season series 7-3.
The Rundown
Mason Morris set the tone with five strong innings, allowing only two hits and one run while striking out four. Bradenton did not record a hit until Bralyn Brazoban singled with one out in the fourth, but Morris escaped the inning when Dylan King threw out Brazoban attempting to steal second.
Daytona broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Adolfo Sanchez drew a leadoff walk before Torres singled into right field, though Sanchez was thrown out attempting to advance to third. Torres moved into scoring position on the play and came home when Ichiro Cano lined an RBI double into left-center field.
Bradenton tied the game in the fifth when Antonio Pimentel hit a solo home run to right field, the only run allowed by Daytona’s pitching staff.
Hunter Hollan followed with two hitless innings, working around four walks and leaving the bases loaded in the seventh. Abraham Gaitan took over in the eighth and stranded a leadoff double before retiring Bradenton in order in the ninth.
The Tortugas threatened to end the game in the ninth when Jalen Hairston and Ty Doucette drew consecutive two-out walks in the ninth, but both were left stranded.
Bradenton began the 10th with the automatic runner at second, but Gaitan kept the game tied. He retired Cristian Jauregui on a groundout that advanced the runner to third, struck out Raymond Mola and induced Johan De Los Santos to ground out to end the inning.
With Bernard Moon beginning the bottom half at second, Sanchez beat out a bunt single to put runners at the corners. Torres then lined a 1-0 pitch into right-center field, scoring Moon and giving Daytona its eighth walk-off victory of the season.
