Frederickburg Sinks Delmarva with Four Home Runs

FREDERICKSBURG, VA: The Delmarva Shorebirds (37-70, 14-27) were defeated 9-5 by the Fredericksburg Nationals (66-40, 20-20) on Saturday night.

The Fred Nats struck first, scoring twice in the second on back-to-back hits by Jordan Williams and Manuel Cabrera that each scored runs, making it 2-0 Fredericksburg.

A solo home run by Christhian Vaquero (2) to lead off the third extended Fredericksburg's lead to 3-0.

In the fifth, Hunter Hines (8) hit a two-run homer, putting Delmarva behind 5-0.

The Fred Nats went deep for the third time on a two-run homer by Jordan Williams (8) in the sixth, making it 7-0.

The Shorebirds plated their first runs in the seventh on an RBI groundout by DJ Layton, followed by a run-scoring single by Stiven Martinez, trimming the deficit to five at 7-2.

Fredericksburg got both of those runs back on their fourth homer of the night, as Rafael Ramirez Jr. went deep with two outs, growing the lead back to seven at 9-2.

Elvin Garcia (3) hit Delmarva's first home run of the night in the eighth, making it 9-3.

Delmarva continued to battle in the final inning as Stiven Martinez drove home two runs with a single, making it a 9-5 game, but that's as close as the Shorebirds would get, as they'd fall by four runs to the Fred Nats.

Luke Johnson (6-2) earned the win in relief for Fredericksburg, while Delmarva starting pitcher Harrison Kreiling (0-1) took the loss in his organizational debut.

The series concludes Sunday afternoon, with Esteban Mejia taking the mound against RJ Sales for Fredericksburg. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 PM.
