Shorebirds Suffer Second Straight Loss to Crawdads
Hickory's Offense Goes Off on Delmarva Again
SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (36-64, 13-21) suffered their second consecutive loss to the Hickory Crawdads (58-39, 24-9) on Friday, 14-2.
Hickory scored in the first inning to take an early lead for the fourth night in a row, as Pablo Guerrero drove home a run with a groundout, making it 1-0.
Jaiden Lo Re (2) tied the game instantly with a leadoff home run. Another run scored on a throwing error as DJ Layton crossed home plate to put Delmarva ahead 2-1.
The Crawdads came back with two quick runs in the second, including an RBI double by Daniel Flames and a successful squeeze bunt by Yolfran Castillo, giving them a 3-2 lead.
In the fourth, the Crawdads put together a three-run inning on an RBI single by Yolfran Castillo and Pablo Guerrero, plus a two-out error to give Hickory a 6-2 advantage.
Another run-scoring single by Guerrero in the sixth plus a solo home run by Kaden Carpenter (1) made it 8-2.
Hickory scored again in the seventh on an RBI single by Paulino Santana to put Delmarva behind 9-2.
The Crawdads broke the game open for good with five runs in the ninth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer by Paulino Santana (12) that made it 14-2. Hickory would go on to win by that score.
Jormy Nivar (5-0) earned the win in relief, with Dalton Neuschwander (1-10) taking the loss for Delmarva.
The Shorebirds look to get back on track on Saturday, with Jake Dykhoff taking the mound for his Single-A debut against Jacob Johnson for Hickory; First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
