Bennett, Bullpen Lead Jays to Series Win

Lakeland, FL – Jake Bennett smacked the go-ahead double and Dunedin’s bullpen was lights out as the Dunedin Blue Jays took down the Lakeland Flying Tigers 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Publix Field to clinch the series win. 

Dunedin’s bullpen trio of Jack Nedrow, Isaac Williams, and Dax Dathe kept Lakeland off the board over the final three innings, with Dathe earning his first professional save.

KEY PERFORMERS

  • RHP Denis Samudio (6 IP, 1 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 5 K) fired a career-high six innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts to earn the win. 
    • Samudio did not allow a run until there were two outs in the 5th inning.
    • He’s punched out at least six batters in each of his last six starts. 
  • DH Jake Bennett (2-for-4, RBI, 2B) brought home the go-ahead run on an RBI double in the 7th as part of his first professional multi-hit game.
    • Bennett’s three balls in play on Sunday left the bat at 111.3 MPH (single), 106.2 MPH (lineout), and 105.9 MPH (double).
  • 1B Aldo Gaxiola (2-for-3, RBI, 2B) opened the scoring in the 2nd with a sac fly and added a pair of hits including a double at 105.6 MPH off the bat. 
    • Over his last 11 games, Gaxiola is batting .317 with two home runs and 15 RBI.
