DUNEDIN, FL – Dunedin Blue Jays RHP Carson Messina has been named Florida State League Pitcher of the Week for August 4–9, 2026.
Toronto’s No. 27 prospect per MLB Pipeline fired five no-hit innings with four strikeouts on Friday to earn his first professional win in a 6-0 one-hit shutout win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers.
Messina was selected by Toronto in the 12th round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Summerville High School (SC). After injuries limited him to one outing in 2025, Messina opened 2026 as one of the most dominant pitchers in the Florida Complex League. He pitched to a 1.69 ERA in five games (four starts) for the FCL Blue Jays before being promoted to Dunedin on June 4. At the time of his promotion, Messina had the best opponents BA (.115) and WHIP (0.89) in the FCL.
Across his first ten starts in Dunedin, the 20-year-old Messina owns a 3.26 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 30.1 innings and opponents' batting .167. He has fired back-to-back scoreless starts spanning 9.2 innings with 11 strikeouts, four hits, and four walks.
Messina is the fourth Dunedin player to earn Florida State League weekly honors in 2026, joining right-handed pitchers Dylan Watts and Nolan Perry, and outfielder Blaine Bullard.
