El Paso starter Ian Koenig pitched six shutout innings in the Chihuahuas' 4-2 win over the Tacoma Rainiers at Cheney Stadium Wednesday night. The teams have split the first two games of the series and El Paso has won three of its last four games.
The Chihuahuas scored in the top of the first on Nick Solak's RBI double off the top of the left field fence. It was Solak's team-leading 27th double this season. El Paso's final three runs scored in the top of the ninth on a solo home run by Nick Pratto and RBI singles by Mason McCoy and Marcos Castañon. McCoy had his first career five-hit game and he also stole his league-leading 37th base of the season. McCoy is five steals away from tying the Chihuahuas' single-season record.
Chihuahuas starting pitchers haven't allowed any runs in 10 innings in the series. Carlos Rodríguez had his team-leading seventh outfield assist of the season in the fifth inning. The Chihuahuas were two outs away from their second shutout in their last three games when former Chihuahua Connor Joe hit a two-run home run. The Chihuahuas turned two double plays and have 145 this season, a new team record.
