EL PASO – September 11, 2026 – The San Diego Padres have recalled infielder Mason McCoy. The 31-year-old will join the Padres, who will take on the San Francisco Giants tonight.
This marks his fourth stint with the San Diego Padres and his first since September 2025. He has played 37 games with San Diego and first appeared as a Padre, notching his first major league hit, on August 21, 2024.
In 131 games this season with the El Paso Chihuahuas, McCoy is batting .284 with 21 doubles, four triples, 10 home runs, and 67 RBI. He leads the Pacific Coast League in stolen bases (37) and is 5th in runs scored (88) and 7th in hits (135).
McCoy recorded a career-high five hits on September 10, 2026, at Tacoma. He became the first Chihuahuas player to have five hits in a game since Brandon Lockridge in 2024. Earlier this season, he became the 7th player in El Paso Chihuahuas history to record 300 hits with the franchise–he now sits 4th all-time with 325 hits. McCoy is also 4th all-time in games played (329).
The Illinois native pieced together a career-high 14-game hit streak from April 21 to May 6. In that span, he batted .429 (24-for-56) with seven extra-base hits, including two home runs, and 13 RBI.
McCoy will join the San Diego Padres amid a postseason push. He now becomes the 14th player on the Padres’ active roster to have played with Triple-A El Paso this season. McCoy is also the 27th player on San Diego’s 40-man roster that has played with the Chihuahuas in 2026.
The Chihuahuas’ 2026 season continues Friday, September 11, as the El Paso Chihuahuas (22-44, 57-84) take on the Tacoma Rainiers (35-31, 68-73) for game four of a six-game series.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. Mountain Time at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, WA. The game will air on 600 ESPN El Paso and www.epchihuahuas.com.
