EL PASO – September 8, 2026 – Miguel Andújar, 31, will join the El Paso Chihuahuas on a rehab assignment as he works back from a fractured right wrist that landed him on the 10-day injured list in July.
It marks the second time this season Andújar has been on the injured list after he was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain in June. In 74 games with the San Diego Padres this season, Andújar is bating .259 with 20 doubles, five home runs, and 22 RBI. It marks just the second time in his career he has recorded 20 doubles in a season, and the first time since 2018 when he finished second in American League Rookie of the Year voting behind Shohei Ohtani.
In 149 games with the New York Yankees in 2018, Andújar boasted a .297 batting average with 47 doubles, 27 home runs, and 92 RBI. He became the first rookie third baseman, with a minimum of 50% of games at third base, in MLB history with at least 40 doubles and 25 home runs in their full rookie season. He became the 7th rookie age 23-or-younger to reach the marks, joining Hal Trosky (1934), Joe DiMaggio (1936), Ted Williams (1939), Nomar Garciaparra (1997), Albert Pujols (2001), and Corey Seager (2016).
Before the Padres signed Andújar as a free agent in February, he spent the 2025 season with the Athletics and Cincinnati Reds. After being acquired by the Reds, Andújar ranked 1st among all National League hitters in batting average (.359), 7th in on-base percentage (.400), and 7th in OPS (.944).
Andújar has spent 10 years in MLB with the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Oakland Athletics, Cincinnati Reds, and San Diego Padres.
The 2026 season continues Tuesday, September 8, as the El Paso Chihuahuas (21-42, 56-82) take on the Tacoma Rainiers (33-30, 66-72) in the final road trip of the season.
