The Oklahoma City Comets brought the winning run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning Thursday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, but the El Paso Chihuahuas hung on to win 5-4. The Chihuahuas have won three of the first four games in the series, all of them one-run wins.
San Diego Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove allowed only one run in five plus innings in his third MLB Injury Rehab start with El Paso. Musgrove threw 60 pitches, 42 for strikes, and struck out three batters without walking anybody. Musgrove has struck out 10 batters and walked one in his 13 total innings with El Paso. He was one of three MLB All-Stars to play in the game on rehab, as Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith and reliever Blake Treinen appeared in the game for Oklahoma City.
Chihuahuas first baseman Marcos Castañon went 3-for-4 with his team-leading 16th home run and fell a triple shy of the cycle. El Paso catcher Ethan Salas went 3-for-4 with an RBI triple and caught two Comets trying to steal. JP Sears faced the minimum nine batters in three relief innings for El Paso and Alek Jacob got his team-leading ninth save and second of the series.
