EL PASO – August 30, 2026 – San Diego Padres pitcher Nick Pivetta is expected to make a rehab start with the El Paso Chihuahuas on Sunday, August 30, against the Oklahoma City Comets.
Pivetta, 33, began the season with the Padres before being placed on the injured list in April with right elbow inflammation. In four starts with San Diego, the right-handed pitcher posted a 1-2 record with a 4.50 ERA.
He has made two rehab assignment appearances this season, both with Single-A Lake Elsinore. Pivetta recorded two outs across 14 pitches in his first rehab outing on August 4. He last pitched on August 25 with the Storm. He pitched 3.0 innings and allowed three runs on four hits and a walk. Pivetta struck out four batters and allowed two home runs.
Pivetta has spent 10 years in MLB. He was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 4th round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of New Mexico Junior College. Pivetta pitched with the Philadelphia Phillies and the Boston Red Sox before signing with the Padres as a free agent in February 2025.
In his first season with San Diego, Pivetta went 13-5 with a 2.87 ERA across 31 starts. He struck out 190 batters in 181.2 innings pitched. He surrendered 129 hits and 50 walks. Among National League pitchers, he ranked 2nd in WHIP (0.99), 3rd in batting average against (.195), 6th in ERA (2.87), 7th in innings pitched (182.1), and 10th in strikeouts (190).
Pivetta is one of two pitchers in all of MLB to record 170+ strikeouts in each of the last five seasons (2021-25). He owns the 3rd-most strikeouts by a Canadian-born pitcher (1,353), behind Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins (3,192) and Ryan Dempster (2,075).
The Chihuahuas’ 2026 season continues Sunday, August 30, as the El Paso Chihuahuas (18-38, 53-78) and Oklahoma City Comets (32-24, 73-57) meet for the series finale.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Mountain Time at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, OK. The game will air on 600 ESPN El Paso and www.epchihuahuas.com.
