ERIE, PA - The Moon Mammoths (23-26) could not overcome some pitching woes in their 2026 return to the field at UPMC Park against the Chesapeake Baysox (20-28).
Erie's starter Carlos Peña has been the epitome of consistency this season, but struggled in the second inning after he tossed a scoreless first. The Baysox, playing as the Oyster Catchers, knocked in seven runs in the second inning, and never trailed again.
Relievers Luke Taggart, Johan Simon along with Dariel Fregio turned in scoreless outings out of the bullpen. The final three innings for the Moon Mammoths were handled by position players Aaron Antonini and Andrew Jenkins.
Offensively, Justice Bigbie reached base twice on the evening. Thayron Liranzo also bashed a home run in the fifth inning to extend his hitting streak to a season-high eight games in a row. It was the seventh homer of the season for the switch hitting catcher. Liranzo missed the first month of the season with an oblique injury, and only returned to the lineup on April 28th.
The Moon Mammoths look to work their way towards a series split starting tomorrow at 6:05 PM. Right handed pitcher Sean Hunley takes the mound as the starter at UPMC Park.
