ERIE, PA - Izaac Pacheco and Clayton Campbell both smashed home runs for the Erie SeaWolves (35-16, 71-48) en route to a 6-3 win to clinch a series victory against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (20-31, 54-64) on Sunday afternoon at UPMC Park.
It was Erie that broke through first in the series' finale. Pacheco clubbed a 463-foot home run out to right field to lead off the second inning against Fisher Cats' starter Nolan Perry. The homer was Pacheco's 17th of the season with the SeaWolves, matching his total from last season with High-A West Michigan.
The leadoff action carried over into the third inning when EJ Exposito smoked a double to left field. Zyhir Hope drew a walk to put runners at first and second, and Erie perfectly executed a double steal to place runners at second and third with no one out. A line drive sacrifice fly scored Exposito from third to make it a 2-0 Erie advantage.
In the fourth, it was Campbell that struck to open the inning. The New Zealander blasted his first SeaWolves home run after making his debut on Saturday night. The opposite field long ball made it a 3-0 SeaWolves lead.
Erie starter Joe Miller turned in 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball on the mound in his third start back from the injured list. Miller was relieved by Colin Fields after 73 pitches. Fields finished off the fourth with a fly ball to keep the Fisher Cats off the board.
Johan Simon entered the game for the SeaWolves in the sixth. The lefty quickly surrendered a solo home run to Dub Gleed to cut the lead down to 3-1. It was just the second home run that Simon has allowed all season, the fewest of any SeaWolves bullpen arm with more than 10 appearances. Alexis Hernandez reached on a single and made his way around the base paths on a series of balls that escaped Thayron Liranzo behind the plate. Hernandez eventually scored on a ball that bounded up the third base line.
Erie added on insurance in the eighth. A leadoff single from Luke Schliger was followed by a single from Campbell. Patrick Lee was hit with a pitch before a single from Woody Hadeen scored two runs. A ground ball from EJ Exposito plated another to give Erie a 6-2 advantage.
New Hampshire tried to claw back into the game in the bottom of the ninth with a sacrifice fly from Cutter Coffey to cut the deficit to three. Wandisson Charles finished off the inning without allowing another run to earn the SeaWolves the win.
Erie returns to play in Altoona with the first game of a six-game series on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
