August 8, 2026 — EVERETT, Wash: Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President and General Manager of Baseball Operations Justin Hollander announced today that right-handed pitcher Carlos Vargas is scheduled to make a rehabilitation appearance for the Everett AquaSox on Saturday, August 8. First pitch against the Vancouver Canadians, the High-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Acquired by the Mariners from the Arizona Diamondbacks in November 2023, Vargas became a workhorse out of Seattle’s bullpen in 2025. He appeared in 70 games, compiling a 5–5 record with a 3.97 ERA. Vargas has been sidelined since suffering a right lat strain prior to Opening Day.
Scouting Report:
- Sinker/Fastball: His primary weapon sits consistently at 97–99 mph and regularly reaches 100–101 mph.
- Slider: A sharp, late-breaking pitch in the low 90s that is especially effective when located well.
- Cutter: A hard secondary offering that he uses frequently, typically around 95 mph.
Vargas will become the seventh player with Major League experience to appear with the AquaSox in 2026. He joins Brendan Donovan, Alejo Lopez, Bryce Miller, Cal Raleigh, Gabe Speier and Will Wilson, all of whom made rehabilitation appearances with Everett earlier this season.
